An airframe taken out of service still occupies a parking position, still accrues charges, still requires oversight, and still deteriorates. Every week it stands there, the recoverable value of its components falls and the cost of holding it rises.
Doing something about it is not simple. Teardown involves hazardous materials, pressurised systems, residual fuel and hydraulics, and pyrotechnic components, all of which have to be managed properly. Serviceable parts carry value only if they are removed correctly and with traceable documentation. A component pulled without records is scrap regardless of its condition.
Disabled aircraft are more urgent again. An airframe immobilised on an apron or movement area is an operational obstruction, and clearing it requires equipment, planning and coordination with the airport authority that most operators do not hold themselves.
